So, I needed to do a few miles and, to enjoy the sunny break in the weather. A day trip to somewhere nice was needed – 20th May 2025.
It was nice to visit ‘sunny hunny’, having not been for many a year…
Great personal memories of Hunstanton.
My trip to Hunstanton
Hunstanton is the closest seaside destination from my locality – approximately 65 miles or so each way. Downside? The getting there frankly! I’ll confess to using the quickest [lol] route.
The ride from the Huntingdon area was not particularly thrilling, but sometimes that just isn’t a factor. This was one of those days indeed. Whilst I had created a [gpx] file for the satnav, I was using it only for traffic updates really, opposed to navigation proper.
In fact, the ride there was down right boring! Slow traffic all the way, and the usual culprits trying to overtake everything in sight; regardless of everything and everyone around them; I am not referring to bikers needless to say.
Anyway, I got to Hunstanton and rode through the town before parking with the other bikers on the seafront. Despite being a Tuesday, there were plenty of bikers there. Good stuff.
I parked up and headed over to the shops on “the green”. I just wanted to get a couple of bits of something – a souvenir if you will.
Then I decided to head back to the ‘bike, then nip down to the burger-van on the promenade. I have to say, it was very good. The lady serving was really nice. I ordered a ‘burger n chips’, which was £5. That’s a good price, and the food was great.
You can see the van in the background, to the right of the ‘bike. Will visit again without hesitation.
I went back to the bike, and enjoyed a few conversations with the other bikers present. That passed an hour or so, and was welcomed too. Friendly bunch of course…
It was a bit ‘parky’ on the day of travel at Hunstanton. 13c with a fresh breeze. Why mention this? Well, I’d worn a mesh suit as it was a balmy 20c in Hunts. when I left. I had a strategy though.
Recently I bought a Klim Zephyr Wind Shirt, and I thought I’d put it into the top box. Wrong. A very specific purchase for moments like this. What moments? I was getting cold! So, that was the decider, meaning it was time to leave, and head back inland.
Sometimes, an impromptu trip works out for the best; this is one of them for me – despite forgetting my wind shirt. Being alone was just the ticket too. I ride alone usually and I just wanted to ride at my own pace, and with a very simple itinerary.
The return journey was just as boring as the ride there predictably. But, I wasn’t in a hurry, and I knew it would be like this was before I left. But, all things considered, worth the effort.
My original plan involved flying the drone; certainly the conditions were favourable. But I just couldn’t concentrate, nor be bothered to find a suitable place to launch it etc.
I shall revisit this idea in the near future, and will add it as B-Roll footage to my next visit. Speaking of which…
Whilst I did record the journey for posterity, it didn’t make for enjoyable viewing in the slightest. Plus, the camera decided to shut down halfway to Hunstanton, for reasons known only to the action camera. The return journey was fully recorded, so who knows what happened there.
Sunny hunny is definitely worth a visit friends.
